![]() ![]() Greece World War I and the National Schism https://workmall.com/wfb2001/greece/greece_history_world_war_i_and_the_national_schism.html Source: The Library of Congress Country Studies The division of Europe into competing alliance groups, with the Triple Entente (Britain, France, and Russia) on one side and the Triple Alliance or the Central Powers (Germany, Austria, Italy, and eventually the Ottoman Empire) on the other, had ramifications throughout the complex diplomatic and ethnic relationships of the Balkans. In Greece the war that arose between those alliances sharpened the outlines of two opposing styles of government and foreign policy. The resulting bitter schism remained in Greek politics and society for decades after the end of World War I. Data as of December 1994
